Today marks one more year of the concession of the Port of Maputo to MPDC – Maputo Port Development Company. It is eleven years of many challenges but also many exciting achievements.

This could be just another year, but it is not. During the past year we have witnessed a massive investment in infrastructure, equipment and human capital that have changed the nature of the operations of the Port of Maputo, made us more efficient, more competitive and broadened our horizons. We highlight the rehabilitation of the main port road and widening of the access gate to heavy vehicles, the expansion of the car and the ferro terminals, the rehabilitation and expansion of Berth 5, the rehabilitation of berths e 3 and 4 (still ongoing), as well as increasing our storage capacity due to investments in slabs and warehouses.

Our port operations have become more efficient with the acquisition of a new fleet of payloaders and a RAM Revolver, and in the maritime operations, under the partnership with P & O Maritime, we acquired a new naval fleet, consisting of two new tugs , a new pilot boat and a new multipurpose vessel. Moreover, we are innaugurating, within three days, the newest addition to our fleet, the tug “Sereia” .

This year has also changed the most important asset of our Port: its human capital, those who bring it to life and boost its development. An unprecedented investment in training has been done, not only for our older staff but also for young Mozambicans who looked at the port as a career opportunity. We trained – and continue to train – a total of 133 young people in operational careers ( tally clerks, machine operators, mechanics, welders, etc.), being that 74 of these have been contracted.

This year we have taken on a major challenge: to improve our efficiencies, reduce the transit times and improve the quality of our services . To achieve this, we count on the continuous collaboration of our employees, our partners, port users and all those who contribute to raise the excellence of the Port of Maputo. To all of them our deepest and heartfelt thanks.

Congratulations to the Port of Maputo.
