CONCESSIONING OF THE PORT OF MAPUTO

Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) is pleased to announce that the company has taken over legal and operational control of the Port of Maputo at 00h01 on 14 April 2003. Under the terms of the Concession, MPDC is the entity responsible for providing all marine services within the Maputo Bay Port Jurisdiction area, including pilotage, tugs, line handling and dredging services.

On the landside, the concession includes all of the designated port areas for international shipping within Maputo, and the coal terminal of Matola. The principal existing terminals within the concession will continue to operate under the terms of their respective leases.

An immediate start is being made with the rehabilitation and development of the port with the total investment programme amounting to approximately USD 70 million. Any major milestone in the implementation of the rehabilitation and construction programme will be communicated accordingly to the relevant parties.
