FIRST EQUIPMENT RECEIVED IN PORT
7 May 2003
MPDC has received the first new equipment after the management of the port was handed over to the private sector.

Alec Don, Chief Executive, received the keys of the four vehicles stating: ‘This small purchase is significant in that it is the first real delivery of new equipment out of a major capital expenditure programme. The Company has already signed contracts for over $7.0m of new equipment and from now on the rate of change in terms of investment and operations within the port will only increase.’
Don confirmed that the substantial orders placed so far relate to the purchase of tugs from Hong Kong and heavy cargo handling equipment, with deliveries planned from mid June onwards. The introduction of the two modern-design tugs, each with a bollard pull of 37 tonnes, will be of major importance for an improved and secure berthing operation.
