A LIFT FOR MAPUTO

Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) announced yesterday that its first equipment of new lift trucks had arrived in the Port. The machines, manufactured in South Africa by Nissan, were immediately put into service handling the port’s growing volumes of trade.

A spokesperson added that a week earlier the South African manufacturer Bell Equipment had delivered the first batch of powerful Bell tractor-trailers to the newly privatised port in Mozambique.
Ken Shirley, Operations Director MPDC, commented: "These are the first items of new cargo handling equipment to be delivered since taking over the port in mid-April. It is world-class machinery and we thank the manufacturer for delivering on time and in full accordance with our detailed operating specifications". He added, that with cargo volumes climbing steadily the machines are now in use round-the-clock.
