The temporary park for trucks accessing the Port of Maputo through Gate 1 (Luis Cabral neighborhood) became operational on May 1. After a year of construction, the 1.25ha area has a capacity to accommodate 50 trucks, a service network and a lighting system. At the moment the second phase of the project is still in progress, concerning the park’s support services (toilets, control point and induction room), which will last 76 days.

In parallel, a first intervention was also made on the access road to the port, and the second phase has already started, which includes the enlargement of the accesses, so that the port has 3 exit lanes and 4 entrance lanes. The new infrastructure has a truck inspection point at the entrance of the port and dedicated accesses for abnormal loads. The project is expected to be concluded in August 2023.

It is noted that this project arose under the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) and the Maputo City Council, signed in August 2020, with the aim of carrying out various infrastructure works that aim to rehabilitate, organize, streamline and requalify the port surrounding area.

Previously used as a parking lot for trucks, this area has now been transformed into an area that will allow for a greater and more orderly flow of traffic, as well as improved working conditions for all truck drivers.
