On May 7, the Maputo Municipal Council (CMM) and the Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) launched the “Maputo belongs to all of us” initiative, which aims to involve all spheres of society in cleaning up the city and is intended to leverage other actions that can promote greater preparation of city infrastructures for rain and bad weather.

The launch was marked by the donation of cleaning materials by the MPDC to the Maputo Municipality’s Salubrity Directorate, namely shovels, wheelbarrows, rakes, brooms, signaling cones, masks and vests. This equipment, which represents a donation of almost 4 million meticais, will enable a continuous cleaning campaign for 12 months, carried out by a staff of 750 people. MPDC will also provide support in terms of human resources.
“Cleaning up our city should no longer be a matter of planning. Cleaning should be an everyday thing. Our city should be clean and we should be the ones to do it,” said the Mayor, Rasaque Manhique.

“The name of this initiative sums up our intention: to have various entities from the private sector, the public sector, civil society, mere citizens, all working together for their city. Taking care of Maputo, keeping the city clean is a collective responsibility and we call on others to join us on this journey that is just beginning,“ said the MPDC Executive Director.”
