An environmental-friendly product called RDC10(Road Dust Control 10) is being tested at several unpaved roads at Port Maputo, as a way to solve the dust issue originated by strong winds and vehicle traffic.

Following a site inspection, it is believed that this product, when applied, will greatly improve dust contamination. The product is applied by adding the product to water and then spraying it onto a dusty surface. It binds the dust particles to the surface area so that it cannot become airborne. It hardens the surface, almost to asphalt road standard, which makes the surface suitable for heavy vehicular traffic.

The product is being tested in a partnership between the Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC), Grindrod and Salgoacar. Since the beggining of the year, MPDC has been doing an effort to control the dust in the port environment by constantly watering and sweeping both the tarred and unpaved roads. Grindrod has also offered an extra water tank to MPDC to increase the capacity of the current water trucks.
